Interlude - back up to now

Ok, only one titbit from the Excursion so far, and that one is 90 degrees off true. The others are all better and will follow shortly.

Today, I'm up moderately early to go to the Bupa Great Capital Run 10k in Hyde Park. The conditions are very good (a bit of sun, a lot of cloud and not too warm), so fingers crossed I should be able to deliver quite a decent time. I gather from various blogs that whilst the run is great, the baggage management is more than a little chaotic. Given my complete absence of co-runners (why don't I have any running friends these days?) and supporters (why don't I have any friends these days?), I'm going to have a go at managing without any baggage. Fortunately my excellent Ron Hill shorts have a system of disreet pockets which should be able to handle:
My super-light alternate phone (Nokia 2630)
Oyster card
£40 in cool crisp notes
lipsalve

Any bananas, safety pins, etc etc I take can of course be discarded. As ever, the burning question is whether to take my sunglasses. I'm leaning towards yes. One thing I never take to an event is an mp3 player. While I enjoy listening to music/podcasts while running generally, I really don't understand people who run plugged in when in the company of several hundred/thousand other runners. You lose the atmosphere, block yourself from the crowd and potentially get in the way of other folk. Don't do it.
