It all went a bit hectic after that last post in Helsinki. Had dinner with my great friends in Helsinki, and then hot-footed it back to UK, and then the next day to Prague for my chum Nick's wedding.
It was a beautiful couple of days - the promised rain stayed away (not far away - there was thunder and so forth a few miles from the venue, but it miraculously veered off course, to much rejoicing). I managed to check out my old stamping ground of when I used to work in Prague, including the trusty locale of the Golden Tree. It has changed a little, but the core offering is still the same - a bar/nightclub with one room which has 4 girls dancing round poles. The girls are a mixed bag, and one could definitely argue they are not of the top flight (and/or with limited English), but really good fun. The room is really well lit too - this is a fun place, rather than a sleazy place.
Note: a) others may not share my perspective on this and b) the character changes a bit later on - I visited here once with friends and we stayed until about 2am. Eyebrows started being raised around 1am, and excuses started being made about 1.30. My word.
The wedding was superb, so much joy in all the antics. Speeches were a bit of a marathon, but mainly due to being covered in 2 languages, which took a while. Much laughter. I managed to regress 14 years by getting the most drunk I have been since my 19th birthday. I had one of my occasional attacks of misplaced gallantry/showing off and downed a large (at least half a pint) glass of becherovka as part of a Czech pseudo-tradition. Only snag - the drink was meant to be shared by about 10 people, and of course, it's 40% alcohol. About 60 minutes later, Sleath had left the building but his body still needed looking after. Thankfully, my new friend Monika showed true mettle by managing me around the place and ultimately back to my room....where I woke ten hours later completely refreshed and with zero recollection of the intervening period. Stupid boy.
