Well, in an occasional installment of tidying various annoyances away, I've gone through the various medals from races over the last few years. It's not a total set, but 17 from 2005, 2008 and 2009. I've pulled my finger out of my arse, cut up a cardboard box, broke open a ready-made picture frame piece of mass produced shit "art" (bought thinking of some kind of objet trouve type project which never became anything) and assembled a medal presentation thing.
Medals (well, these kinds of medals anyway) are funny things - when you get to be decent at competing in the events, it's not like it's a huge achievement or anything. But it still seems wrong to throw them away. So, with this minor bit of work I've now converted half a drawer of cluttery ribbon things and a crap photo frame into something moderately decent to have around.
It has made me realise though that I don't know where the medals are for London and La Rochelle marathons, I'm sure I'll have them somewhere. Now I have somewhere to put them (although I may have to retire some of the less interesting ones...Royal Parks Half, I have my eye on you).
I am chucking the purely generic ones where you might get the year and event name/location etched on, but they're otherwise straight from Discount Medals Superstore. These comprise:
