Software Satisfaction Awards

I was invited along to the SSA awards dinner by TeamSeer, a company I've had some dealings with. A very jolly bash held at the Grosvenor Square Marriott, and MC'ed by Labour Spin Expert, Alastair Campbell. Mr Campbell did the obligatory dig at RIM/Blackberry, dropped a couple of Blair anecdotes and a nice story of how he'd tried to make smalltalk with the Duke of Edinburgh (apparently His Royal Highness would certainly be capable of driving a narrowboat, thank you, he was a naval commander for several years) and insisted on referring to his flame-haired event side-kick as "Rebekah" which seemed a little unfair. He also introduced the assembled throng to the word "woefuck" which he claimed stemmed from a typo but sounds to me like a useful term for future use.

I'm not quite sure how the remit of the awards was defined - 'software' is a dashed broad church, and the 20-ish awards were all in the area of accounting, tax, payroll and hr admin systems, so I feel they could have tightened up the frame of reference a bit. Maybe "Enterprise Finance, Administration and Productivity Software Satisfaction Awards" would be nearer the mark.

I'm delighted that my host TeamSeer picked up the 2 categories they were nominated in (which is entirely fitting - it is a wonderfully comprehensive yet effortlessly simple solution to HR Time Management headaches), so it was smiles all round. Maybe it will be worth going to the EFAPSSAs next year too. :)
