As mentioned above, I've signed up for the Milan marathon. Bit daft really, as I don't enjoy them, but it's been 3 years since the last one (and it was 3 years before that when I did my first), so time to suck it up and give it a go. According to the programme I found on the web, I need to start my training now - 14 weeks prior to the event. I'm certain that life will get in the way (including nursing minor injuries etc), but I will do my damnedest to give it a fair crack of the whip. Also, having eased off training the last week or two, I'm feeling podgy, so no more Mr Nice Guy.
The programme is basically running every day from tonight until 23rd November. Maximum one day a week of rest, and sometimes none at all. That said, most of runs aren't too awful - there's one 18 miler, and one 20 miler, and that's it, so fingers crossed I can plug away and not get injured. The Worksop half-mazza and Mortimer 10k fit into the schedule pretty well, and perhaps even the London Run to the Beat half....although I'd need to raise sponsorship for that. Doable.
It begins tonight - 5 miles in the Helsinki rain, by the looks of it.
