Twitter

Massive update required, I suppose. Can't believe it's over 3 months since my last update. Other people seem to be able to juggle a job, a relationship, twitter and blog updates. Mind you, those people seem to be celebrities, who a) are more powerful than I am in oh so many ways and b) presumably have people to do things for them.

I am blown away with Stephen Fry on Twitter. Good lord, the man is prodigious. I was disappointed by his America programme - I think his schtick only really works when he's dealing with other bright people. I don't think anyone could argue that he has "the common touch", but I do not think less of him for that. His technowizardry is very impressive though - he's amazingly fluent at an enormous range of geekdom. His only downside is his appalling army of sycophantic followers. Always a danger of opening yourself up like he has - so many comments appear on his pictures, or blog entries or what-have-you. "Oh dear, Mr Fry!" "Oh, what a beautiful photo!" etc etc. It makes one's bile rise.

Otherwise, Twitter is a bit pointless. I use it for things I should use RSS for but can't be bothered. And I tried to use it to build up my own network of unthinking citizen journalists around the world. This has potential, but people seem to be a bit ephemera-obsessed. That's the trouble - the community is entirely made up of high-level Geeks.
